Assassin's Creed IV already?

As many know, Assassin's Creed IV will be available this holiday season. I'm interested to see how this is going to pan out considering what I have been spoiled from Assassin's Creed III (no, I haven't finished it yet.).
We recently got a trailer for the game here:

From an I suck at videogames standpoint, I'm worried. I was one of the few people who didn't like the naval missions in Assassin's Creed III, and I'm expecting even more naval missions since it's pirates.

From a what my blog is actually about (my sense of fashion), I'm a bit disappointed by Edward's lack of beak on his hood. I thought the beaked hood was a good way to tie together the assassins though time (I was always hoping Desmond would change to a beaked hood). I know this is a little detail and it's not like every assassin in the games had that feature, but it was iconic of the series.

But enough of me being a Debbie Downer. Here's what I like: He's blond, which is a nice change of pace. He's a pirate, and I liked being able to fight on ships in AC3. He dual wields cutlasses which will be super and look at all his shiny guns. I am about 9000% sure I'm gonna have fun killing Templars as this dude.

Leixia progress

So I've mentioned a couple times that I'm sewing for PAX East at the end of the month. I decided I'd give the (not so) big reveal now on what the costume is:

I'm super excited to do my second costume of the recreation kind, and I'm getting absolutely no help on this one. So for this costume I actually bought a pattern for a romper and then I'm going to make the top layer by my own design. What I've done so far is 80% of the romper, painting one of the shoes, and tried out the hair:

Here's the shoes, but I didn't get pictures of the hair (or anything else for the matter). I hope I can get this as done as I need to wear it.

Too busy lamenting the fact that I need to work today so no Halloween party or AC3, so no comments. (I'll probably come back to this post later when I have better pictures or can think of witty comments.)

Assassin's Creed 3

A.K.A. Orange you glad it isn't Ezio (geddit? yup queen of horrible jokes right here).

Hi, all! I've been waiting for this game to come out and in celebration painted my nails to match my AC inspired costume for tomorrow (I'm sure you can guess what it is).

 Yeah, after this point is mostly geeking out. just a warning.
My subway train got delayed so I did what I usually do when I have a new video game and am bored - read the instuction manual. But the cool (but slightly disappointing) thing is that the manual is all in game. There is only on page to the instuction booklet:

 I also knew that the game would come on two disks and worried about what that would mean for the player (I'd heard horror stories about needing to switch disks in the middle of gameplay, and experienced it firsthand in childhood. Darn you, Disney Villains for the PC (9>3<)9 ). Assassin's Creed I think did a perfect job when they decided to separate the disk content with one disk playing the single player portion (aka the portion I intend to play) and the other having all the multi-player content (which I won't be able to play until I go home for winter vacation).

 Now all that's left is to play the bugger.

New York Comic Con part two

Sorry Guys, I think I was half asleep then I wrote my last blog post, so there was a distinct lack of witty commentary. Well, today is not much better.

You might remember the jumper my sister is wearing from here, but I never got a chance to share the skirt which I had also worn for the Sunday of PAX.

There was a hell of a lot of people there.

I had wanted to try the Flash Mac and Cheese, but I guess I wasn't fast enough because they had sold out.

Also, I bought stickers!

In other news, I just found out that I am Birthday Buddies with Booster Gold.

moar Assassin's Creed? Yes! (part 3)

so yes, I'm going on a bit of an AC binge. Sue me. I was finally able to meet Taylor in person (the girl I mentioned here but wasn't sure if I was getting ahead of myself but it turns out she was also very excited to meet me too so everything works in the end). that was a long side note thing. Anyways yes and she had also mentioned liking the costume of the courtesan:

It's a less complex costume than I had picked out (the smuggler) and it would be nice being characters on the same side and all.
I'm a bit disappointed in the costume because the original development art was this:

I personally find it more visually interesting. I also like hats. Hats are cool and this one draws out the shape of the mask (because masks are cool as well). I also think is has a slightly more historical feel. The design that the team went with kinda says "pirate" to me, but I could just be weird like that.

While we're talking about cosplay, I think more people should be the apprentice characters. Why do you need to be a main character anyways? aren't these guys recognizable enough?

Now officially at college

Moved into college today, and I am just pumped. here's my new room situation:

I get nervous before big changes, and the only thing that calms my nerves is crafting, so I made a patch of the Assassin's insignia:

And then I wore my birdie ring because eagles are cool:

so I'm going to live with two other girls in a triple room and share the floor with some others. It's a victorian house style dorm, so there is a common room downstairs and a communal kitchen. My mum gave me an early Chrismas present, an Xbox360, so now we have three systems in our room. Here's to hoping this year turns out great.

Assassin's Creed part 2

When a girl on my college Facebook said she wanted to do an Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood cosplay group, I knew I needed to do some research. See, I have a confession. I've never owned any of the games because my best friend had an Xbox360 so I'd never needed to buy my own. And even then, most of my exposure was watching my bestie's dad play the first game (which was great because he's a history professor so he told me all kinds of stories while he played).

Now that I have that off my conscience, let's get back on track. I found the perfect costume while searching the multi-player characters, but then another perfect costume when I started watching a Let's Play of Assassin's Creed II on youtube. Now I'm stuck with decisions!

The smuggler's costume was love at first sight:

9this is at least 3-4 layers of clothing), but the result is fabulous. For the less fancy one, the one on the left, there would be a shirt which makes the inner layer of the sleeves, as well as one of the skirt-like bits. Over this would be another shirt which makes the second layer on the sleeves and peaks out below the leather overskirt. A third shirt would make the collar and peplum under the leather doublet. Then the leather doublet itself with interesting paneling. Then over all that is a cloak.
The two layered skirt would be the bottom of the innermost shirt (if it is elongated and unfitted, that might work) and a detatched skirt. Then two layers of britches.

And then it wouldn't be complete without the pretty pretty inverted hidden blade.

See, I told it it would be an undertaking. And the other (even more fabulous) variant of the costume adds another shirt for the puffed sleeves, another overskirt, leather gaiters, and another layer of cloak.

And an advantage to cosplaying video game characters is there are sometimes different color schemes to work with. (her default looks to be green but the navy blue is my favorite.)

The other costume I love is the younger sister of Ezio, Claudia Auditore da Firenze (because she's that badass I need to type her whole title):

Reason 1: I love pretty Italian Renaissance dresses.
Reason 2: My mother has been wanting to make pretty Italian Renaissance dresses for my family for doing things such as SCA events. (so I might be able to enlist her help)
Reason 3: Her dress is pink and yellow in the beginning of the Assassin's Creed II (which is my favorite pretty princess color combination):

Also Reason 4: She becomes a total badass lady assassin (and also owner of a brothel which is always cool):

But most people make her assassin costume, so I want her dress. It's also going to be a ton easier because of my family's background in historical costuming. I do have a slight fear that the costume might not be recognizable, but I think it would be more recognizable if I hang out with an Ezio/Femzio, so problem solved.

Assassin's Creed part 1

(I'm currently working on a dress using my green lantern fabric which I'll tell you guys about when it's done because most of what's left is the actual sewing)

So, yes, Assassin's Creed is amazing. Every time it comes up, I end up gushing about how pretty everything is. So, in my efforts to make friends at college, I found a girl on my college Facebook who also loves Assassin's Creed. And wants to do a cosplay group. And I want to keep her.

I'm really excited and trying to plan what I can about the costumes before it gets too late (the girl wants to do this for Halloween, but PAX East seems like a more reasonable deadline for making multiple costumes).
She wants to cosplay as the main character of ACII, Ezio (but a female version, so Femzio).

I'm curious what she has planned since I think the costume design might need some small changes in order to look more flattering, (if the fabric is too thick, the layering will hide her curves) also because just making the costume without changing anything is boring/common/missing the point.
Part of me says "screw accuracy" and make the multiple belts into an underbust corset (which will help counteract the layering hiding curves issue). It also gives a better base for the metal thing that is probably like an over sized belt buckle.

I was right, it is just a really big belt buckle.

I think most of the costume is good, if we get the fitting right, so that might be the only change I suggest. 
Warning: The next post(s) will be Assassin's Creed because I really like the aesthetics of this game.

this thing is just too beautiful

I love video games. I'm no good at them but I don't even care because that isn't even the point.
Anyways, yes, like many people I love love love Assassin's Creed. Now, I suppose I should admit that I haven't played it (because I only have a PS2 and Wii), but I enjoyed watching my friend's dad (who's a history professor so he always had interesting commentary) play and I mostly like the pretty pretty graphics.
But yes this is the wonderful thing I've found:

Isn't it just amazing. I am in awe of the detail and the blade is spring loaded so double cool.
