Best of Bombshells

I'll admit I love the DC Bombshell series of figurines, but I seriously don't have the budget for them. Second best thing is finding the art and similar art on t-shirts which are much less costly and easier to show off to the public.

I'd have to say that my favorite of the Bombshell series is the Supergirl. I love the bright primary colors and the patriotic background. also cute dresses are a thing I like, in case you didn't know.

Harley here has the advantage of as well as being a bombshell, she is also riding one. The two-toned bra look is now pretty common for Harley, but is actually fitting here. I think the design is pretty strong and the "slightly dangerous" is pretty cute.

Not a DC Bombshell, but still pretty is this "War Bird" Captain Marvel shirt.  Again, I love primary colors so I am a bit biased. I'm loving her shirt ans skirt, while her shoes leave me a bit confused. I like that while she has many similarities to the Supergirl design in her colors, her scarf, and her hair, both are clearly independent designs.


Graphitti Designs also has a Wonder Woman bombshell shirt and a Poison Ivy bombshell shirt, While We Love Fine has a Black Cat bombshell shirt.

College Night at the Museum of Science

So I got myself trapped in one of those "If I ignore my blog long enough, people will forget I haven't updated in a while" cycles where I wasn't doing anything in my social life and feeling really bad about it. I don't know when my next post will be, so no false hope for you guys, but I did go on a little adventure with some friends recently.

As many of you remember from last year, the Museum of Science has a night each year that's free to college students. I think last year they actually closed the museum early so the college students had free reign. I saw a few children this year, so maybe they kept it open still?

Here's my outfit:

I had wanted to wear something science-y, but I guess that's just not in my closet atm. But hey, I have a scientist, an engineer, and a doctor on my chest and that's close enough.

I didn't get any pictures besides these. Playing around with scale and size. I couldn't decide if I was supposed to feel like Goldilocks or Alice in Wonderland. I liked the biggest chair most of course 'cause it made me feel tall.
There's a Science of Pixar exhibit in the works and I thought the most interesting part was a real life model of a single room where you turned dials to change the lighting, then went to a computer with a CGI model of the same room and try to recreate the same lighting. It's really not as easy as I thought it should be since the lighting doesn't follow the same rules. There was also a display where tiny balls would be released down  an incline to show how CGIwater is made to flow using the same principles.

Oh and a short update in my life is I finally got a job, where being jobless and moneyless was part of the reason I was so inactive.

Dating Superheroes

It's valentines day! yay! also known as Singles awareness day, Valentines day has often been the bane of people's existence, especially people of the nerd population. To cheer everyone up I've collected a couple videos on dating superheroes:

I'm personally on the fence about dating a superhero. Some would be better than others. Batman? nope, too many crazies in Gotham. Booster Gold? Hell to the yes please. He would take you any-when you want to go. 

Marvel 1602

I'm sure I've mentioned before that I have a more historical background when it comes to costuming, so I was super excited when a friend showed me Marvel 1602. You see, some family friends do events at a place called Pioneer Village in Salem, a false town based on New England in the 1630s. Despite it being too late for marvel 1602, I still want to make some of the costumes (and maybe a photoshoot?).

And I thought the x-men uniform was kinda silly, but I liked how the costumes are still recognizable: 

I really like blue, so I really like Susan Storm's dress as well as the rest of the Fantastic Four:

but Johnny reminds me of Guy Fieri so that kinda ruins the look for me.

Of course, my historical background is more in the 19th century, so I'm not judging on historical accuracy. But yeah, I'd love to make that Spider-man costume or see other people make costumes from this series.

aaaaaah busy

so I've got a convention coming up this weekend (Arisia) and then moving back into my dorms so here's a little preview of what is going to be worn:

Leather masks are super cool

My sister and I spent today making a couple leather masks.

I drafted the patterns out of paper. Then we held it up to her face, she told me what she wanted changed and I tweaked things.

we ended up with pretty amazing patterns which she traced and cut out of leather.

then she wetted the back and walked around the house while wearing silly masks so they fit snugly to her face. here's the two we've made so far.

horrible blogger is horrible at updating

I'm amused by how many times I've written on this blog about how I am horrible at updating. I'm always like "I wanted to update sooner but -insert excuse here-," but I never get better at updating.

So here's an update:
I did my nails in the beginning of the week (but then broke a nail when sewing so they look ugly now).

Assassin's Creed 3 FTW

I also hung out with Antonia and Raven and started working on a sparkly shield for my Captain America costume (seen here and here)

the shield was bough on sale at CVS for $6

Here it is after two hours of gluing.

 It's a children's shield so it will be small enough that I won't want to murder myself while bedazzling and it won't cover my costume when I pose.

I'm Bringing Sexy Cap

Hi, all! I always feel like I need to blog more, but I'm far to busy (meaning too lazy and irresponsible) to have a regular schedule.

So I went to my first party as a college student last Saturday: Comicazi's Halloweeniversary party! Here's the line up of me and my crazy friends:

Hilarious Story #1: A guy comes up to me and says "I never thought I would ever say Captain America is hot."

Hilarious Story #2: My sister found someone dressed as the Doctor (the one with the scarf, Tom Baker). Of course she compliments his scarf and he offers her a jelly baby.
At this point, my friend Sarah has been watching this conversation. So, my sister accepts the candy and Sarah is just like "You just took candy from a stranger. Don't people say to never do that? Why did you do that."
My sister responds with "He's not a stranger, He's the Doctor."

Me and my invisible shield

 I had accidentally entered the Women's costume competition as well as the Group competition. When I went up alone, I heard someone yell "Sing the song!" My sister heard someone yell "God Bless America!"

 I pretty much spent the night "getting down with my bad self" (Oh how I love using lame lingo), and making boob jokes (wait... that isn't what all girls do when they're bored?).

V for Victory! We won the group costume prize!

 I had a wonderful time and I'm looking forward to next year! Now to figure out what to spend my prize on.

Also I had Captain America nails under my gloves.

Superhero Jewelery

So, I went to see the avengers again with my family. Good times, but unrelated to this post.

Anyways, on the first day of BCC, I visited my sister and she gifted me a pair of Captain America earrings. She bought them on Ebay but is pretty sure they had come from 1928's marvel line of jewelry.

Unfortunately I was only able to find them on Ebay as well while searching for pictures of them.

Sorry, settling in to college life

I'm not going to be very active until I get more into the swing of things (and move a sewing machine into my dorm). So here, have a Steve Rogers sewing:

Hawkeye!

My sister have been having a little back-and-forth joke it goes like this: "you know what would be better than -insert awesome thing here-"
"No, Antonia. Please stop."
"A hawkeye shirt."
Now this all came about because I've been wanting to try screen printing, but was too lazy to actually do anything about it.

Now I need to find the purple shirt my sister bought to put the design on.

my sister would point to him "look at him! He needs you to make a shirt!"

My sister's list of favorite superheroes goes something like: Hawkeye, then Mockingbird, then (60s television) Batman. And no Black Widow (because she always steals the limelight from Hawkeye).

Cupcakes

Tonight at dinner, there was make-your-own cupcakes. Seeing as there was only pink and purple frosting, along with various candy-type toppings, I did the only thing I felt was right:

There really needs to be more Hawkeye in the world.

Punisher Lolita...?

Doesn't that sound like a great idea?
Alright, so mostly this is a non-post, but I found these amazing shoes online (A few years ago I went through a major HotTopic phase so I still get the emails.)

 I imagine some kind of bullets everywhere. If I am able to get these, I will totally make a whole lolita Punisher outfit. Like, the skull logo could be the top of a nice apron.
Also holsters everywhere. Like this one:

I never want to deal with weapon stuff at conventions (laziness strikes again), so no fake guns, but pockets to hold all my stuff is always nice.

Remember that one thing with the costume and the pictures?

You know, the one where I finished my Iron Man dress but never got pictures and kept promising them. Well here we go.
I took my sister to Comicazi (remember I've mentioned it, it's my local comic book store) for the first time and decided to dress up because why not.

Next time I wear it to a convention or something, I'll find my red tights and hopefully a pair of red shoes (and a nice shirt to wear underneath).
Gosh, how anticlimactic am I?

Amazing Spider-man

So I was able to finish my  spider-man dress yesterday sans the red spider on the back. I just gotta say that this movie was (pardon my pun) amazing. So here we go:

And I feel like I need to mention that My sister was kind enough to let me borrow her red sequined shoes which made me so very happy.
