Best of Bombshells

I'll admit I love the DC Bombshell series of figurines, but I seriously don't have the budget for them. Second best thing is finding the art and similar art on t-shirts which are much less costly and easier to show off to the public.
BOMBSHELL: SUPERGIRL T-Shirt
$18.95 at Graphitti Designs
I'd have to say that my favorite of the Bombshell series is the Supergirl. I love the bright primary colors and the patriotic background. also cute dresses are a thing I like, in case you didn't know.
BOMBSHELL: HARLEY QUINN T-Shirt
$18.95 at Graphitti Designs
Harley here has the advantage of as well as being a bombshell, she is also riding one. The two-toned bra look is now pretty common for Harley, but is actually fitting here. I think the design is pretty strong and the "slightly dangerous" is pretty cute.

$25 at We Love Fine

Not a DC Bombshell, but still pretty is this "War Bird" Captain Marvel shirt.  Again, I love primary colors so I am a bit biased. I'm loving her shirt ans skirt, while her shoes leave me a bit confused. I like that while she has many similarities to the Supergirl design in her colors, her scarf, and her hair, both are clearly independent designs.

Graphitti Designs also has a Wonder Woman bombshell shirt and a Poison Ivy bombshell shirt, While We Love Fine has a Black Cat bombshell shirt.

The best time to wear a sweater... Is all the time

I'm busy sewing for next month (as people who follow my twitter know, I'm gonna be at Pax East this year), so I don't have much stuff documented. But here's something from the vault 'cause I was never really happy with the pictures we got about it.
we took this at our (historical) dance rehearsal, so we were stuck with a hideous yellow background

My sister, her friend Raven, and I all have mostly matching sweaters. If you've seen us at Comicazi (we usually go on sundays), one of us was probably wearing one. I think mine is just the best thing because it's really soft and warm because it's so big. Though I am jealous of the others because I like the stripes on the sleeves.

Dating Superheroes

It's valentines day! yay! also known as Singles awareness day, Valentines day has often been the bane of people's existence, especially people of the nerd population. To cheer everyone up I've collected a couple videos on dating superheroes:

I'm personally on the fence about dating a superhero. Some would be better than others. Batman? nope, too many crazies in Gotham. Booster Gold? Hell to the yes please. He would take you any-when you want to go.

Batgirl!

I love Batgirl. I love all the Batgirls, but I love Steph the most. That's why I freaked out when my sister showed me this dress from Modcloth:

The next day, we went to the comic book store together (can you guess which one?) with Raven (who got a shiny new camera). I wore my new dress, and we had a mini photoshoot. Here's the results:

The dress itself is great. I thought it would be cool to do my nails to match, and wear all my batman bling. I'm going to order a yellow bat symbol necklace from etsy to improve this outfit, but here's what I have so far:

Also I'm posing with my favorite issue of Batgirl because she tries to explain the Batfamily.

what has Julia been up to?

I've mostly been shopping. My sister and Raven want to do a pin-ups and comic books photoshoot, but I found something to add:
Why not have some pictures of cute pin-up girls playing a cute retro board game? (I'm wondering how many people actually remember this movie. It was basically Jumanji in space.)

I also designed some custom fabric:
Arrows and Lanterns

Stars and Beetles
I made hair bows with the samples I ordered (and decided to brighten the yellow a bit)

and I might have bought myself some valentines candy because of the boxes.

HAWKAAA!

So here's the moment of truth guys. The costume you've been waiting for. The sensation that hit the nation (by which I mean the convention, Arisia).

THE ONE AND ONLY BIRDS OF PREY!
Anyone remember that one video I posted a while back? (The Birds of Prey song from Batman BATB) We, (Antonia, Raven, and I) spent a little over a month making a choreography for that song and then practicing once a week. I've asked around to see if anyone recorded it, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to show you guys until the official masquerade video comes out.
I wanted all of us to take a picture with our reference images (mostly because I worked really hard to get most of them the day of)
This photographer comes up to us and asked if he can take a picture of us pretending to beat him up.

posing for our official pictures
You can't be a strong female character without making pin-up poses, right?
Also, we won a craftmanship award ("Best translation of 2D to 3D") and best in class for presentation.

Busy Busy Busy at Arisia

As the title says, I'm probably at Arisia now after an all-nighter (or something similar) working on the birds of prey for the masquerade Sunday night. Fingers crossed that I get the performance recorded so I can show you guys.

So the part of the post that you all have been waiting for is the sewing superhero because I post those when I'm busy or boring:
My sister showed me this scene since she's been reading through Nightwing.

Also, if any of you readers out there find a comic where a superhero is sewing or has someone else sewing their costume, feel free to comment with the issue number or hit me up on twitter: @notsogeekchic.

I'm running out of titles for nothing posts

So I've been a horrible blogger recently. mostly because I haven't. been, blogging. recently.
Nope, been too busy doing nothing and wasting my money. here's some things I've gotten since my last post:
The wonderful bows were a Booster-day present for myself. They're sold by the lovely etsy seller: SirenLovesYou and there are some of her other designs on her art tumblr. (I'm keeping my eye open for if she restocks her set of young justice hair bows)

I got this from claire's when I went to the mall with my sister.

I got to see The Hobbit with some friends and fell in love with it. Sadly, I'm not much into reading (which always surprises people for some reason) so I don't think I'm gonna read the Tolkien books, but I will probably watch the extended cuts of the Lord of the Rings movies to satiate my need for the next movie.
So yeah, I bought the key on a keychain but then just took of the keychain part and put it on a chain to make a necklace because I do stuff like that.

Have a boosterrific Booster Gold day, everyone!

My friend a while back was looking through information about Booster Gold and found that his birthday is December 29, but in the future. So today is a day we like to use to celebrate him and his large ego. (it's also my birthday too so that's the only reason I find it such a big deal.)

So yeah. Booster Gold doesn't sew, but he still does some handiwork on his costume.
also he does so shirtless because I guess he didn't think to bring another set of clothes.

Leather masks are super cool

My sister and I spent today making a couple leather masks.

I drafted the patterns out of paper. Then we held it up to her face, she told me what she wanted changed and I tweaked things.
we ended up with pretty amazing patterns which she traced and cut out of leather.
then she wetted the back and walked around the house while wearing silly masks so they fit snugly to her face. here's the two we've made so far.
Huntress

Mockingbird

My sister has ordered leather paint, so when we get them painted. I'll post more.

playing with wigs

so kinda failed experiment here:

My sister and I have decided to debut our Birds of Prey costumes at Arisia next month. Meaning we need to actually make out costumes. And the first thing my sister wanted to play with was trying to curl a wig for Lady Blackhawk.

He go:

we're probably going to try using hot water to straighten it a bit.

crafty crafty craftiness

I've been doing some crafts and watching movies recently. so here are some things:
almost done with my bedazzled sheild.

made a first whack at an apple of Eden.

I'll make a better one eventually, I swear.
And my sister got me this guy. I've totally loved Jericho from first sight. He's blond and mute, what more could you ask for?

Wig Party

So, I haven't gotten any pictures from the con yet, so yeah. But I did buy an amaze-balls wig (by which I mean my sister bought it for me) from The Five Wits. I want to put together a Birds of Prey group with my sister and her friends (hopefully we will be able to go to NYCC next year), so I got the wig for Lady Blackhawk:

I've been a fan of her uniform for a while now and have been tempted to read Blackhawks because of her.
So yeah, I got the "Art Bomb Zodiac Star" style. Here it is:

a little curling and a hat away from perfect
the wig came with a cute clip in pony tail (we bought a second one for $5)
I think I might go to Comicazi's Halloweeniversary party as a girly Captain America
Or maybe as a girly pirate Captain America

Trust the Gold Standard...

That is, the Booster Gold standard.
look! It's my ugly hands!
So the story behind this is that I've only painted my nails, like, three times or something. Two of those times I painted them blue, which I ended up liking a lot.
I was hanging out with a college friend yesterday and she needed to buy new nail polish, and I fell in love with this gold polish. I decided I could only buy it if I used it and the first thing that popped into my head was Booster Gold. So yeah, I did this and I'm even wearing my Blue Beetle dress today.

Bane is Dangerous!

I went clothes shopping with my family and I needed to stop in front of the Converse X DC comics window display:

New camera means more crafts

I recently got a new camera, or more my mum got a new camera a month ago and then gave it to me. Anyways, I've been having trouble finding it in my purse because 1) it's rectangular, and 2) it's black. Meaning whenever I want it, I end up taking out my 3DS or cell phone, or some other small, black, rectangular object. And it blends in with the lining of my purse.

So I thought it would be great to make a camera case for myself because I was bored and don't want to go out and buy one. Here it is:
Can you guess who it's supposed to be? It's Jimmy Olsen, Pal to Superman and Daily Planet photographer.
I haven't been looking at much new 52 DC comics (only Batman and Robin because the last arc was Damian trolling the previous robins), but it looks like Jimmy lost the bow tie? (and looks like Justin Bieber? What the hell, DC?)
