PAX East

I don't have much to write about so I'm making this con a single post. I also don't have pictures because I'm horrible and can't find my camera charger.

On Friday, my highlight was buying an attorney badge from Fangamer. I walked around a lot and didn't try any demos except dance central. I dunno, this just isn't my year for getting new games except AC4. Speaking of which, every time I passed the Assassin's Creed stand, the line was capped.
I may or may not be designing an Apollo Justice lolita costume to wear this with. (picture from Fangamer site)

Saturday was tons of fun. I was wearing my Leixia costume and though I was only asked for a picture once, it basically made my day (and it was put on twitter too!).
no, the costume isn't actually finished, but I wore it anyways.
also I'll braid some wire in my hair so the loops stick up better next time.
I hung out with a friend and got to see the Assassin's Creed preview. Basically, the video boils down to I'm boarding every ship I find. I don't even care. I hate cannons.
It was really exciting seeing my friend, "The Orange Sauce" play giant jenga, I think he and his partner for the game could have gone to the next round if he had placed the last block and walked away instead of trying to adjust it. And the second round was intense. Let's just say the last move involved twisting the top half 90 degrees.
I ended my Saturday by going to the Escapist movie night where I learned of such treasures as RoboGeisha which I don't even know if I want to see it for myself. In all it was super fun.

I only stopped in for an hour or so on Sunday because I was really tired from my stressful week of sewing and school projects. I did get to see the preview for the new Saints Row game because I was bored and like mindless violence. Let's just say the player character is the leader of the Saints Row gang thing, and President of the United States, and has superpowers, fights aliens, and has a gun that kills people with the power of Dubstep. Obviously I've been playing the wrong kind of videogames.

Midnight update

sorry for not getting a post up yesterday and the day before. PAX East opens in 10 hours, but I am far too tired to finish my costume right now.
As far as wear-ability, the romper is complete (just needs straps), the shoes are complete, the hair is good enough, and the socks I bought dyes close enough to the color of the costume.
I was just trying them on over the tights I was already wearing.
The actual part that will make it look like Leixia however, is not yet close to done. It is still in bits and some of those bits are not finished.
My need to do tomorrow morning: sew the last six "petals", finish flower motif on second sleeve (can you tell I was tired when I started that one?), paint last six petals after I sew them.

My should do but might not because of time: yellow inner sleeve, paint side designs on romper, sew on frogs (These style closures, not the animal.), attach actual closures to the costume

3 Days 'till my downfall

So because of the snow, my class was cancelled today so I made tons of progress.

I now have all the materials I need and drafted and cut out all my pieces. I dyed the blue parts so we'll see how that turns out tomorrow.
I need to leave the pieces to dry over night, but I need to take them out of the tub before the cleaning lady comes around tomorrow.
I also bought some hair extensions and have made myself a new set of false bangs.
I can't take my own picture with my camera, so here's a crappy webcam pic.

So I've got what, 4 days to PAX

I've finally moved back into college, which will be good for my productivity.

So yes, I have 90% of the materials I need for Leixia. I'm going fabric shopping tomorrow for blue fabric in case I can't dye my white fabric.
And I bought today dye, a bucket, knee highs to dye, and some beads for Leixia's pendant.
don't look at me like that. that was the cheapest bucket I could find.

Time to embarass myself

And also my sister I suppose.
I've been kinda sad because there's still no news about the Arisia Masquerade DVD yet and I really wanna see and share the Birds of Prey skit. But I was looking around my house today since my spring break just started and found the vhs tape of one of my very first times on stage.
Since this is my 100th blog post, I thought I would share my finding with you so you can all laugh at me (and my sister). Keep in mind that this is from 2001 and I was only in second grade.
Here you guys go:

Okay, so...

I really shouldn't be making more Polyvore sets. I've just been using it a procrastination tool. Like, if I want to wear cute outfits like that why don't I focus on making myself cute first?
Of course, you all know the answer: "But you're already so cute, Julia!" jkjk, I'm just lazy and don't feel like I need to be cute if I'm not in costume. But if I wanted to be cute out of costume, here's some outfits I'd wear:

The dress was pointed out by Miss Betty Felon on her blog and I just rolled with it (geddit? cause racecars have wheels and wheels roll?) In place of a neckerchief, I thought one of those headbands with ties up top would be cute. And you all know how much I love red tights.
This one's for my lovely sister because you all know how much she loves Hawkie-poo. I'm thinking how hard would it be to recreate the dress (since it looks like it sold out a long while ago and I can't find it on ebay). And the earrings are ones that my sister got after she fell in love with Hawkeye so it fits.

This isn't my first time posting about Animal Man and admitting that I haven't read any of his comics yet (but I do want to). It mostly came about because I saw that shirt and my first reaction was "Animal Man!" I actually would have gone with shorts on this outfit if I could find any the right orange. I don't know why but I think peplum tops with shorts are cute.

I love Jaime and I've been meaning to make another Blue Beetle dress but this is already so cute. I don't even know what I was looking for when I stumbled upon this dress. Of course there's gotta be a ton of accessories with Egyptian scarabs.

Assassin's Creed IV already?

As many know, Assassin's Creed IV will be available this holiday season. I'm interested to see how this is going to pan out considering what I have been spoiled from Assassin's Creed III (no, I haven't finished it yet.).
We recently got a trailer for the game here:
From an I suck at videogames standpoint, I'm worried. I was one of the few people who didn't like the naval missions in Assassin's Creed III, and I'm expecting even more naval missions since it's pirates.

From a what my blog is actually about (my sense of fashion), I'm a bit disappointed by Edward's lack of beak on his hood. I thought the beaked hood was a good way to tie together the assassins though time (I was always hoping Desmond would change to a beaked hood). I know this is a little detail and it's not like every assassin in the games had that feature, but it was iconic of the series.

But enough of me being a Debbie Downer. Here's what I like: He's blond, which is a nice change of pace. He's a pirate, and I liked being able to fight on ships in AC3. He dual wields cutlasses which will be super and look at all his shiny guns. I am about 9000% sure I'm gonna have fun killing Templars as this dude.

Leixia progress

So I've mentioned a couple times that I'm sewing for PAX East at the end of the month. I decided I'd give the (not so) big reveal now on what the costume is:
It's Yan Leixia from Soul Calibur V!
I'm super excited to do my second costume of the recreation kind, and I'm getting absolutely no help on this one. So for this costume I actually bought a pattern for a romper and then I'm going to make the top layer by my own design. What I've done so far is 80% of the romper, painting one of the shoes, and tried out the hair:
Here's the shoes, but I didn't get pictures of the hair (or anything else for the matter). I hope I can get this as done as I need to wear it.

Princess Jellyfish

I was obsessed with anime at one point. While I don't really show it or talk about it much, there are still some manga I read and anime that I watch. My personal favorite at the moment is called Kuregehime or Princess Jellyfish. I started reading it a while back, but got distracted.
I'm not going to bore you with the story too much, but the point is that the main character is a jellyfish fanatic who lives with other girls with similarly extreme obsessions. Through a course of events, she makes friends with a boy who crossdresses and is convinced to make dresses based on jellyfish with the help of her friends.
this basically looks like my home in the days leading up to a convention/ historical dance
Basically, replace fanatics with art students and jellyfish with superheroes and you have my current life in a nutshell.
This scene reminded me of my sister when I ask for her input on my designs.
If I go to Anime Boston this year, I wanna make this costume:
the original from the manga

and an anime screenshot for the coloration
Doesn't this dress look super easy? I don't even need to hem it since in the story she just cut the skirt of a dress.
